What Is a Ceramic Coating, Chemically Speaking?
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer based on silicon dioxide (SiO2) or polysilazanes that, as it cures, forms a covalent bond with the factory clear coat. Unlike a wax, which simply sits on top of the paint, ceramic becomes a chemical extension of the surface itself, with a final thickness of 1 to 2 microns.
That covalent bond explains its durability. A wax breaks down under detergents, heat and UV radiation within weeks; a cured ceramic coating can only be removed by mechanical abrasion — in other words, by polishing. Graphene formulations add reduced graphene oxide to the SiO2 matrix, which improves the layer's thermal conductivity and reduces water spotting by promoting more even evaporation.
The indicator we measure in practice is the contact angle: on bare, degraded clear coat, a water droplet spreads at 50–70 degrees; on a quality ceramic it exceeds 100–110 degrees. That is the beading effect that carries dirt away as the droplets roll off and keeps the vehicle cleaner for longer.

Technical Application Protocol
Before application, the body must be thoroughly degreased.
Our order is strict: alkaline wash, chemical decontamination (iron remover and tar dissolver), mechanical decontamination with a clay bar, paint correction and, as the final step, a panel wipe with an isopropyl alcohol solution. Any residue of polishing oils blocks the covalent bond, and the coating will fail through adhesion — not through product quality.
Conditions matter too: the surface cool to the touch, in the shade, ideally between 15 and 25 degrees. We apply in a crosshatch pattern — overlapping horizontal and vertical passes — and wait for the flash: the moment the product forms an iridescent haze indicating it is ready to be leveled.

Over the life of the coating, the washing protocol decides its real longevity: pH-neutral shampoo (6.5–7.5), the two-bucket method with a microfiber mitt, and never brush-type tunnel washes, which chew into the ceramic layer with the accumulated grit of hundreds of cars. Every 3–4 months, an SiO2 booster recharges the hydrophobic performance without reapplying the full system.

Why Is the Mediterranean Climate So Hard on Clear Coat?
In the Barcelona area the UV index reaches 8–9 throughout the summer. Ultraviolet radiation breaks down the polymers in the clear coat (photodegradation), which translates into loss of gloss, oxidation and, in advanced cases, the clear coat failure that can no longer be polished — only repainted. A ceramic coating acts as a sacrificial UV filter over that chemistry.
Add to this the sea-salt aerosol, which in coastal towns settles on the bodywork daily and accelerates electrochemical corrosion on edges and underbody.
